DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES INDICATORS FOR FACULTY OF EDUCATION DEANS

Abstract

            This research aimed to 1) develop leadership competencies indicators of Faculty of Education deans, 2) test the relevant of the leadership competencies indicators of Faculty of Education deans’ model, and 3) develop the way to use the indicators for Faculty of Education deans.  Mixed methods were used in this research divided into three phases, and the research tools was questionnaire which five scales (accuracy = 0.98) to collect the leadership competency levels of Faculty of Education deans from 40 universities in Thailand. The sample were 460 deans which were 50% of the overall populations using stratified random sampling method. The data analysis were using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics with M plus computer program.  


               The research result found that 88 indicators of the leadership competencies had coefficient of dispersion ≤ 20% which appropriated to include in the model of leadership competencies indicators of Faculty of Education deans. The model relevant to the empirical data with the statistical significance (P-value = 0.06, RMSEA = 0.024, SRMR= 0.021, CFI = 0.098, and TLI = 0.096). The main components values were higher than standard with 0.70 in every components. The sub-components and indicators were higher than standard with 0.30 in every components and indicators. The suggestion ways of using leadership competencies indicators of Faculty of Education deans were  1) leading by using conflict management and team building, 2) being a transformational leader by using transformational management and creativity, 3) having social responsibilities with community development and environmental management and learning sources, 4) having strategies by planning organizational direction with practical strategies, and  5) having network by setting common goal and working together within the network members.
