Abstract

The present research aims to develop the mouthwash formula from guava leaf extract for decreasing bad breath. Various flavoring and sweetening agents as well as preservatives were tested. The formula composing of peppermint, menthol, sorbitol, paraben concentrate, sodium benzoate, propylene glycol, glycerin, alcohol, sodium hydroxide and water has good physical properties. Normal volurnteers gave highest satisfaction in this mouthwash. The stability of this formular is good for 3 months storage. The precipitate and dark brown color of solution were observed at 4 months period. Storage at 45 °c seemed to make the monthwash contained lesser in tannin content than at 5 and 37 °c. This mouthwash is appropriate to further test for the prevention of bad breath in the volunteers.
