Abstract

Objective : To evaluate and determine the reliability and validity of the Pediatric Anxiety Rating Scale (PARS)-Thai version
Method : PARS is a validated clinician-rated tool for assessing pediatric anxiety symptoms, severity, and impairment. After receiving approval from the copyright owners, the authors translated the original version of PARS from English language to Thai language using forward-backward translation method. A focus group was conducted to assess participant’s understanding of the PARS-Thai version. The content validity of,PARS-Thai version was verified using content validation index (CVI). The reliability of,
PARS-Thai version was evaluated by measuring internal consistency [Cronbach’s alpha]. The validity of PARS-Thai Version was evaluated by measuring Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r) between PARS severity scale and Clinical Global Impression-Severity Scale [CGI-S].
Result : Forty-three children and adolescents with anxiety disorder and Forty-five care-givers were included. The CVI of both the parent and child versions of the PARS-Thai version was verified with score of 0.97-0.99. Cronbach’s alpha of the parent, child and evaluator versions of the PARS-Thai Version was 0.867, 0.786 and 0.830 respectively. Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r) between PARS-Thai version severity scale and CGI-S was 0.514 (moderate correlation).
Conclusions : PARS-Thai version was found to have good reliability and good validity. PARS-Thai version is useful for assessing and monitoring the severity of anxiety disorders in children and adolescents in both clinical practice and research settings.
