Prevalence of Knee Osteoarthritis in Elderly in Family Practice Center, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province
Abstract
Knee osteoarthritis is a significant health problem worldwide, including Thailand. Knee osteoarthritis affects quality of life and disabilities in elderly. This study aims to investigate prevalence of knee osteoarthritis in elderly people who enrolled in Family practice center of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital.
A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 275 elderly, who visited Family Practice Center between September to November, 2016. Data was regained from questionaires. Descriptive statistics were employed to describe sample characteristics and prevalence. Results: The prevalence of knee osteoarthritis in elderly was 13.10. The high prevalence of knee osteoarthritis in elderly were age 60-69 years (17.3%), Female (15.58%), Overweight (16.49%), Family history of knee osteoarthritis (72.0%) and history of accidental knee injury (28.57%).
Conclusions: Knee osteoarthritis in elderly in Family practice center of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital is a significant health issue. It is important to screening elderly in community. The development of revention, treatment and effective referral systems in knee osteoarthritis should be formed in Phra Nakhon Si yutthaya Province, especially in the high prevalence group.
