PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS AND STRATEGIES OF ELITE FUTSAL ATHLETES IN TRAINING: CLASSIFIED BY PLAYING POSITIONS

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to study and to compare the psychological factors and strategies uses of each position of elite futsal athletes in training. Subjects consisted of 201 male professional futsal athletes who participated in Professional Futsal Thailand League 2016.  Subjects were included 32 pivots, 90 wingers, 43 defenders and 36 goalkeepers with an average age of 24.40 ± 3.96 years and being professional futsal player for 3.82±2.87 years. The instrument used in this study was psychological characteristic of elite futsal athletes in training questionnaires13. Statistics used for data analysis included means, standard deviations, one-way ANOVA, and LSD multiple comparisons. Statistical significance was set at p<0.05.

                The results of this study found that psychological factors of each position were significantly different (p<.05) in cohesion, confidence and anxiety-free, and intelligence to play ball. According to the questionnaire, the most confidence and anxiety-free were goalkeepers followed by wingers, pivots, and defenders respectively. The most intelligence positions were goalkeepers followed by wingers, defenders, and pivots respectively. The most cohesion positions were goalkeepers followed by pivots, defenders, and wingers respectively. Moreover, this study also found that goalkeepers were the top used position in psychological strategies. The techniques that goalkeepers used most were obtaining encouragement, positive self-talk and relaxing respectively.
