Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the resistance of chloride penetration ofconcrete containing fly ashes with different fineness. Ordinary Portland cement and three types offly ash viz., original fly ash and classified 45% and 10% fine fly ash portions were used. Thepercentage of fly ash replacement in cement was fixed at 30% for all mixes. The Coulomb chargetest in accordance with ASTM C 1202 and the chloride immersion tests in 3% NaCl solution wereperformed for investigating the chloride penetration resistance of concrete. The results showed thatthe resistance of chloride penetration of concrete measured by the Coulomb charge increasedwhen fly ash was used in concrete and the fly ash fineness increased. The results of the chlorideimmersion test for 3-6 months confirmed the finding.
