Abstract

For the mechanical advantages of the internal fixation of subtrochanteric fractures, study has shown that AO tibial nail has a better rotational control and a stronger bone-holding potential of the proximal fragment than the ordinary Kuntscher nail.  The use of AO tibial nailing for simple subtrochanteric fractures was therefore introduced as it is more advantageous than the conventional Kuntscher nailing.  The geometry and method of application as compared with the Zickel nail also revealed some advantages useful for Thai patients in  certain conditions.
