Abstract

The objective of this research is to compare the learning outcome of undergraduate students in western music minor, who enrol for violin performing skill course of Department of Western Music, Faculty of Fine Arts, Srinakharinwirot University. The procedures evaluate the teaching method between common teaching method and computer-accompaniment teaching method. The research is proceeded with simple random sampling by lottery from 36 students that are separated into two groups of 18 students. Research tools implemented are course’s pre-test and post-test to analyze statistic values.


Research experimental result reveals learning outcome of the ‘MUS111 Individual Classical Music Skill I course’, A Major scale on E string and A string topic, of western-music-minor undergraduates. Investigation is made through common teaching method and computer-accompaniment teaching method. Pre-test and post-test are employed to assess performing skills those are considered into five issues; there are distinct result in every issue. From the course pre-test, the highest and lowest assessed score are ability of music memorizing issue and accuracy of melody issue respectively. On the other hand, post-test indicates that the two student groups make the most distinct score on precision of pitch issue, while the least distinct score is competent musicianship issue. Furthermore, the evaluation of computer-accompaniment teaching method reaches higher learning outcome than the common teaching method evaluated with post-test score; statistical significant is set at 0.05.
