Abstract
This study aimed to examine exercise behaviors, compare the differences between exercise behaviors characterized by gender and body mass index and investigate
the association between attitudes to exercise, stress, social support, perceived self-efficacy and exercise behaviors of nursing students. This study is the cross-sectional study that uses systematic random sampling to obtain 247 nursing students of the bachelor degree of Nursing Science program of the Faculty of Nursing, Srinakharinwirot University, in the academic year of 2016. The qualified questionnaires were used to collect data. Descriptive statistic such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and inferential statistics such as independent T-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation were applied for data analysis based on the statistically significant
level at 0.05. The results showed that most of the sample had scores of exercise behaviors at a moderate level (80.57%). Exercise behavior scores characterized by gender were not statistical significance differences but exercise scores characterized by body mass index were statistically significant differences. The results of the correlational analysis reveal that there were no statistically significant correlations between attitudes to exercise and exercise behaviors but there was a negative statistical significance correlation between stress and exercise behaviors. Moreover, social support and perceived self-efficacy have a positive statistically significant association with exercise behaviors. The results of the study suggest that stress reduction, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, suitable exercise places, reorganization of study schedules for exercise and promotion of perceived self-efficacy assessment may maximize exercise behavior improvement in nursing students.
