This action research aimed to develop pain management system in patients with advanced cancer. Kurt
Lewin’s concept was used as a conceptual framework of research; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The
researchers analysed situations by problem and barrier identification from medical profiles, using questionnaires,
brain storming with nurses related to knowledge, skills, and attitudes of pain management, patients and care
givers participation, their service satisfaction, man power analysis and work load, health team, pain management
system, resources and supervision system. In action step, nurses participated in developing and using of pain
management in patients with advanced cancer patients and care-givers were focused. Pain score of patients, care
givers satisfaction, and nurses satisfaction related pain management system were observed.
Findings revealed that after pain management system development application in patients with advanced
cancer had pain scores decreased in mild level. Caregivers were mostly satisfied with the services. Nurses were
also mostly satisfied with the developed system and higher than standard criteria. Key success factors for positive
outcomes comprised nurses and caregivers participation and supervision by nurses with competency in pain
