Abstract

Health inequality is one factor that causes Thai women to experience significant chronic illnesses more often than Thai men. Social systems including social structures and social institutions work together and influence health inequality. Gender inequality is another factor that contributes to health inequality. Most Thai women have an inferior status when compared with Thai men. Thai women are generally poorer; less educated; earn a lower income and have less opportunity to develop policies. This paper aims to present significant health information and statistics relating to Thai women. In the last section, an agenda for further research with the goal of promoting Thai women’s health under promoting gender equality will be suggested.
