Abstract

This study was a qualitative research aiming to reveal the development of nursing roles in promotingbreast feeding for babies with cleft lip and cleft palate. In-depth interview was used with five registered nursesworking in post partum ward at Srinakarin Hospital. The nurses have experiences and expertise in promotingbreast feeding in babies with cleft lip and cleft palate. Content analysis was used in the study.The results of the study were revealed that concept of development of nursing roles focusing on healthproblems and demands of clients. Development of nursing practice based on academic knowledge and experienceswhich can conclude the lessons conveying to other nurses in other areas. The study also found that nursing rolein promoting breast feeding for babies with cleft lip and cleft palate are taking care of mothers, babies andfamilies, being as the coordinators of care, organizing knowledge and information which can extend the qualityimprovement and research development and also being the model for developing nursing roles in other healthissues.
