Abstract

The purpose of this quasi-experimental research two-groups pretest-posttest design was to study theeffects of life skill development on emotional quotient of nursing students. The subjects were 175 volunteerfirst year nursing students of the Faculty of Nursing enrolled in the academic year 2008. They were simplerandomly assigned into two groups. The 88 subjects were assigned to the experimental group and attended thelife skill development on emotional quotient program. The program required 10 sessions of two- hour lesson,in which one session lasted a week. The control group consisted of 87 students and continued their regularprogram. The research instruments were the manual of life skills development on emotional quotient of nursingstudents and the emotional quotient assessment scales for 18-25 years old of Thai people. Data of emotionalquotient scales were collected before and after the participation in the program and analyzed for mean by t-test.The result showed that 1) there was a significant increase in mean scores of emotional quotient in the experimentalgroup (p-value<0.001), and 2) the experimental group showed significantly higher mean scores of emotional quotient than the control group (p-value<0.001). Therefore, it is suggested from the study that the first yearnursing students should participate in the program to enhance their emotional quotient.
