The Effect of Learning Program Through a Group Process and Cartoon Storybook on Self Care Behavior in School Age Children with Thalassemia.

This study is a quasi - experimental researchwhich two groups pre - post test design. The purposeof the study was to determine the effect oflearning program through a group process andCartoon Storybook on self care behavior in schoolage children with thalassemia. The sample werethe school age children with thalassemia soughtmedical services at thalassemia clinic of PhontongPrimary care unit, Tombon Phontong, AmpherBanphaeng, Nakornphanom Province. The 30samples, purposive random sampling techniquewas applied by drawing lots. The first 15 subjectswere assigned to be experimental group, the next15 subjects were assigned to be a control group.The experimental group was applied for learningprogram through a group process and CartoonStorybook with using group process. The qualityof the questionnaires were determined by cronbachûsalpha coefficiency. The content validity wasexamined by 5 experts. The reliabilities of selfcare behavior showed 0.898. The data wereanalyzed by using frequency, percentage, arismaticmean, standard deviation, paired t-test andindependent t-test.The results of this study were as follows:After the experiment, the mean score of selfcare behavior of the experimental group wassignificantly higher than the control group(P < 0 .01). The mean score of self care behaviorof the experimental group after the experimentwas significantly higher than the mean score ofself care behavior of the experimental groupbefore they entered the learning program througha group process and Cartoon Storybook withusing group process.
