Psychological Characteristics and Situational Factors as Correlate of Organizational Citizenship Behavior in The Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters

Abstract

Organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) is one of the important favorable characteristics in society and organization. Personnel withhigh OCB contribute a strong foundation for work performance and development to accomplish the organizational goals. This study aimed at investigating psychological and situational factors related to OCB. Samples were 404 personnel in The Royal Thai Army Forces. The results revealed that favorable attitude towards work, low work stress, future orientation and self-control, supervisory social support and organizational support were positively and significantly related to OCB. Moreover, these 5 variables could predict OCB with 43.3% of accuracy. The important predictors in sequential order were favorable attitude towards work, future orientation and self-control, supervisory social support and low work stress. Furthermore, it was found that young personnel with short period of work was the at-risk group, needed urgent attention.
