Foot Massage to Reduce Foot Neuropathy Among Thai Patients With Diabetic: A Systematic Review

Abstract

The purpose of this systematic review was to conclude foot massage methods to reduce foot
neuropathy in Thai diabetic patients. Published articles written in Thai and English from 2006 to 2016
were searched from electronic databases, including ThaiLis, ThaiJo, and CINAHL, as well as hand search
for unpublished papers. The results showed that 13 papers met the inclusion criteria. The effective foot
massages to reduce foot neuropathy in Thai diabetic patients could be classified into three methods: 1)
Thai massage, 2) massage by using equipment, and 3) combination of traditional Thai massage and massage
by using equipment. This result indicated that nurses and health care providers should use these massages for conducting an experimental or randomized controlled trial study among in Thai diabetic patients by
comparison 1) Thai traditional massage, 2) massage by using equipment, and 3) combination of traditional
Thai massage and massage by using equipment and evaluates outcomes, such as massage duration, massage
frequency, and the number of massage positions reducing foot neuropathy.
