THE DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENT ASSISTANT SYSTEM: A CASE STUDY OF BANNONGJAN SCHOOL, KHAM SAKAESAENG DISTRICT, NAKHON RATCHASIMA PROVINCE

Abstract

This research aimed to study and to develop student assistant system in order to create and to evaluate an operational guidebook for Student Assistant System at Bannongjan School. The sample group of this research consisted of 17 teachers and officers at Bannongjan School, Kham Sakaesaeng District, NakhonRatchasima Province, under the authority of NakhonRatchasima Primary Educational Service Area Office 5 the academic year of 2016; and 5 experts to evaluate the operational guidebook of student assistant system.


The findings of this research were as follows:


1. The operation of student assistant system consisted of 5 essential aspects: 1) getting to know students individually, 2) screening students, 3) promoting and developing students, 4) preventing and solving problems, and 5) transferring students. The results of group conversations: The school did not have a plan in operating student assistant system; it lacked of various kinds of equipment; responsible people did not understand the operational process and this caused the process to not fall into the same pace; there was not a good coordination both in internal and external school; and there was not a continuity of the operation.


2. The requirements of officers in developing student assistant system at Bannongjan School, Kham Sakaesaeng District, NakhonRatchasima Province in general was in a high level. Moreover, the level of officers’ requirements in all aspects of student assistant system was high as well.


3. The data collected from focus group and the study were compiled and created as a guidebook of student assistant system. The guidebook consisted of 6 elements: 1) objectives, 2) rationales and definitions, 3) responsibilities, 4) five operational procedures of student assistant system, 5) references, forms and memorandums, and 6) extra knowledge in operating student care and support systems. Moreover, the results of experts’ opinions in evaluating the suitability aspect and possibility aspect of the student assistant system guidebook in general were in the highest level.
