Abstract

The objectives of this study were to investigate: (1) the management of community enterprises as food-processing entrepreneurs in the western region of Thailand, (2) the pattern of success of the community enterprises as food-processing entrepreneurs, and (3) the relationship between the administration of the community enterprises and the success of the community enterprises in the western region of Thailand. Community enterprises in 8 western provinces of Thailand. A survey by questionnaires was conducted on 2,292 related participants, the committee members, and the members of community enterprises. The data were analyzed, summarized, and discussed quantitatively, using canonical correlation analysis as well as path analysis. The qualitative approach implemented by in-depth interviews and observation was used to support the findings of this study.


The results were as follows. Firstly, the management of community enterprises placed a high importance on production, marketing, and organization management. Secondly, the success of community enterprises was due to sustainable development of business, focusing on both financial and non-financial returns. Moreover, the results of canonical correlation showed that the management of marketing and organization was related to the success of community enterprises, in terms of financial and non-financial returns. In addition, in order to develop food-processing entrepreneurship in the western region of Thailand, it was found through path analysis that community enterprises had to focus on marketing and organization management which had an effect on the success of community enterprises, in terms of financial and non-financial returns.
