Computer Syndrome: Imminent Hazard that can be Perceived and Preventable

Abstract

          Using computer for a long periods with improper positions and inappropriate environments could can cause computer use syndromes including 1) optical and visionary system related syndrome and 2) usculoskeletal system related syndrome. These syndromes usually affect work performance and health of the user. This article presents guideline for preventing and correcting these syndromes with an emphasis on promotion of workers’ vivid perception of imminent hazard. The perception includes 1) perception of health hazards, 2) perception of health hazard causes, and 3) awareness of health hazard prevention methods. Users are stimulated to perform prevention and correction of computer syndrome when they perceive that they are facing the imminent hazard. The performance of prevention and correction comprises 1) arranging office equipments, 2) arranging working environments, 3) arranging working positions, 4) adapting working methods, and 5) performing behaviors and other preventions for working safety.
