Abstract

Prolonged labor is a crisis that increase maternal and fetal complications, cesarean section rate and dissatisfaction for childbirth. This two – group posttest comparative experimental design aimed to determine effects of positioning by using Maneevada knowledge program on active labor period and childbirth satisfaction among primiparous women. Sample included of 50 rimiparous women giving birth at Phramongkutklao hospital. Convenience sampling with inclusion criteria was used to recruit the participants. Participants were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n=25) or a control group (n=25). Experimental group received positioning by using Maneevada knowledge program as well as a routine nursing care while control group received a routine nursing care. Data were collected by using demographic and obstetric data collect tool and the birth satisfaction scale. Descriptive statistics and independent t-test perform for data analysis. The finding found that the experimental group had significantly shorter active labor period than the control group mean 144 min. and was satisfaction for childbirth than the control group. (t48=-10.77, p=.01 and t48=12.79, p=.01, respectively) This study confirmed the effectiveness positioning by using Maneevada knowledge had shortened duration active labor and more satisfaction for childbirth. Therefore, hospitals should be used this program as a guideline to promote the progress of labor and satisfaction for childbirth.
