Abstract

This research paper aims to design and develop the ontology in the domain of intangible cultural heritage and folk wisdom of Phatthalung Province. The ontology will be used as the corpus for the cultural document annotation. This enables linked cultural information in various dimensions. The Ontology design and development were based on Noy and McGuinness’s knowledge engineering methodology. Our ontology consists of 3 groups of concepts: (1) mixed culture, (2) culture based on language, and (3) folk wisdom and culture based on language independence. The ontology was encoded in OWL format (Web Ontology Language). For ontology structure evaluation, experts identified that the ontology’s structure has very high rate of suitability. Result of search effectiveness evaluation shows that the ontology achieves high rates of precision and recall. The average precision is 0.92 and the average recall is 0.95.
